why we laugh January 27

breaking ice, letting grass scratch its way through
can you see me?
smell the wind, blowing me signs of worry
see, water will flow under you
and you will breathe easy
you will forget how tangled the trees are, how wrought the branches are
with each other.
laugh as well as you often do when you race toy-cars with me,
race toy-cars with me. and lose.
